Going Postal.

It's an undeniable fact that The Postal Service are the postal children of indie electronica. With their first album Give Up, I thought I knew everything about Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello's successful project. However, while browsing through Audioscrobbler/Last.fm, I found out that they did a cover of Phil Collins's "Against All Odds" -- which appeared on the Wicker Park soundtrack, a collection of indie music similar to the Garden State soundtrack. I don't necessarily like Phil Collins or Genesis's work (partly because my brother played that music to death in the eighties and early nineties), but I like this cover. Likewise, listening to this brings me back some nostalgic, good times of growing up.

Listening to Jen Wood and Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie sing a duet is like musical sex, especially on Give Up's "Nothing Better." A lot of people I've introduced The Postal Service to particularly like that track, and I've found a spiffy remix of it by Styrofoam.

Unlike die-hard fans, many people don't bother with a group's b-side tracks. In some cases, however, it is the band's b-sides that are just as good (if not better) than the full-length, album-released tracks. My favorite Postal Service b-side is "Be Still My Heart," a song very reminiscent of "Brand New Colony" that reunites Gibbard with Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis (I want Jenny Lewis to marry me while she sings sweet, sweet music to my ears during sex).

And here are more b-sides, especially for you up-and-coming fans of The Postal Service:
